Pant muslin, or I always want to wear what I can't: Burda 11-2008-121

Every so often I get this wild idea in my head that I can wear pants cut like this.

In reality, I know it's more likely to be squat and lumpy rather than lean and chic on me.  But maybe I'm onto something with these pants.  I'm wearing them with 2.5" heels, I have a pair of 3" heels on the way that I will try with these pants before deciding whether to move forward.


For the record, I won't be making the final pair from cotton muslin.
 These pants are cleverly drafted, so that the pocket makes the front fit like a straight cut pant, but there are still pleats overlaying them for slouchy effect.  I think it's genius that you get the pleats without pouf (see side and three-quarters views above).  I shortened these pants by 2" and I suspect that if I shorten them any further (or wear shorter heels) I will be skipping my way to Stumpiness.

    I think your muslin looks pretty fantastic and they can only look even better in real fabric - you can definitely wear these.

    I agree with the others, you don't look frumpy. I think you are rocking this look - I can tell just by the muslin.

    The lumpy part you think you see is just muslin not draping. I'm sure you can come up with nice fabric somehow :-)..

    I think your muslin looks amazing! They are a fantastic fit and very flattering. I would love to have a pair of pants that fit that well. I think you should go for it and make them up in fashion fabric.

    I think the fit is fantastic!! I always want to wear this style, too. But, my hips and backside make the fit totally different than intended.

    The interesting cut of these makes me really excited to sew Burda pants.

    I think these could use more flare at the shoe opening. I think it'd balance off the pleated top better. Just IMHO!

    So far, so good! The drape of the final fabric will be crucial, I think.

    Magazines, even the pattern ones are misleading. I'm still waiting for my Burda transformation to blonde Teutonic goddess.

    I think the fit looks pretty good. You should definitely make these up in your chosen fabric. I think they are going to look great.

    I do understand. I need bottoms badly too, but I didn't want to let another Tops challenge pass by. Please watch the sew-a-long while you are making your pants. BTW I think you are doing a great job with those pants!

    Honey, you look LOVELY in those muslins. sew 'em up in your fashion fabric, you'll look fantastic.

    Believe me, 20 years ago I had your kind of figure and spent so much time wishing I was more stick-like. That was wasted time that I wish I had back. You have an adorable figure. Go love it and MAKE THOSE PANTS, you doll!
