Hang or fold bias cut garments?

Hello.  It turns out I am going to sew two wedding dresses.  One for a civil ceremony at City Hall to be held in 3 weekends (!) and one for our ring ceremony in Maine.  The ring ceremony dress, the one that I've been blogging about off and on for the last few months is done.  Note, the dresses are the most fun thing about the planning.  With less than two months to go I'm realizing that I need to line up several essential services: caterer, rehearsal dinner venue, guest entertainment.

Did I say that planning is my forte?  I lied.

Now I'm fretting about where and how to keep it until June.  Should I fold it (and then re-press it closer to the date), or hang it (I'm afraid of it getting growing longer and longer on the bias)?

And because I don't want to make this a completely pictureless post, here is the inspiration for the civil ceremony dress:

  1. Can you lay it somewhere? Like on a guest bed? Or roll it up in a towel, as if you were packing something that creases which you don't want to crease?

  2. Fold it, with as few folds as possible, if Anonymous' suggestion of laying it flat somewhere isn't viable. Hanging not a good idea.

  3. Fold, fold, fold. BTW, Trena made that dress and it's gorgeous. I want to make it too. But, with a top I can wear a bra with.

  4. Weddings make the best planners feel crazy, it's not you.. For a bias dress: hang overnight if you're going to hem it. So you don't have to do it again after it stretches :-). But then you should fold it, so it doesn't stretch too unreasonably. Can't wait to see the dress :-).

  5. Thank you very much, everyone! Fold it I will.

Anonymous, I like the towel idea!

Cidell, I just mocked up the bodice of No. 5, I think it would be amenable to sew-in bra cups...

  9. I've had success with rolling knit garments----not hanging or folding. Works good
    when traveling too

  10. where do I find this pattern? It's gorgeous.

Also- no chance you'd sell or rent your 2009 burda magazines is there? I am completly in love with the two dresses you made- but can't find the magazines anywhere to buy.
